Gretchen's Muse- " Baroque as Bizarre"
Works by JS Bach, his son Carl Philip Emanuel, and Haydn at their most whimsical, including vocal gems by Mozart and Haydn.
J.S. Bach Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue
C.P.E. Bach's mercurial Trio Sonata in C Minor, "Sanguineus et Melancholicus"
W. A. Mozart "Abendempfindung," a beautiful statement of longing.
J. Haydn "The Spirit's Song," expressing similar themes, but with an uncomfortable air of foreboding.
J. Haydn String Quartet in C Major, Opus 20, no. 2--one of his most epic, centered around an operatic "capriccio" movement and ending with a quadruple fugue!
